Maxi Moment

Snapped these pictures in between classes the other day. We had a string of days with gorgeous weather here, so I could finally break out some spring dresses. This is one of my favorite maxi dresses. It has a cute retro feel to it, and when I wear it I feel like I want to walk along the seashore… Those two things aren’t directly related, but they’re both true…

1 Piece, 3 Ways: Floral maxi skirt

Maxi skirts are one of the greatest designs of all time… a bold statement, I know, but I stand by it. They are unbelievably comfortable, chic, and versatile. If you don’t own a maxi skirt, then I seriously recommend you sprint to your car, start her up, and go shopping for one. A cute, floral maxi skirt like the one shown here, is perfect for the months to come. Here I have offered three different ways to wear your maxi skirt, but the possibilities are truly endless.

1 Piece, 3 Ways: Floral maxi skirt
The first look is spring-time casual. Throw a comfy, light sweater over your maxi skirt and add fun accessories like a bright colored bangle, leopard thong sandals, and a fedora. This look is perfect for class, shopping, or brunch. For the second look, I was inspired by the music festival style that is trending right now. Wear an unbuttoned denim shirt over this mix of floral patterns to pull them together, and keep the rest of the accessories neutral. To dress up the maxi skirt a bit, try wearing a silk tank in black, pretty drop earrings, and cool silver pumps. Which outfit is your favorite? And how do you like to style your maxi skirt? Tell me in the comments!

Trend or Foe?

Let’s be honest, ladies, no matter how much we love, appreciate, and lust over fashion in all its various forms, there are trends out there that just don’t work for everyone. You know the ones I mean…those ‘exclusive to 6 foot tall, skinny bitches’ trends or the ‘just too weird to be wearing in any normal society’ trends. If you hit the streets wearing an out-there article or accessory, you may get snapped by a street-style photog, or you may just feel like a fool who would have been happier in your fit-me-like-a-glove jeans and unbelievably soft t-shirt.

This post is a tribute to those trends that I like to look at on the runways, in magazines, and on the aforementioned skinny bitches, but couldn’t possibly pull off myself. And to all those ladies out there who blaze the trail for ‘out-there’ fashion, bless you and your style balls.

Overalls

The Man Repeller at manrepeller.com

Seriously, how is she crushing the overalls look right now? I would seriously look like the farmer’s daughter. And not the hot farmer’s daughter that finds a brawny, sun-kissed husband… the one that tends the chickens and never leaves the farm.

Fierce Headwear

Photo by Tommy Ton at style.com

I can only imagine the look on my peers’ faces if I sported golden, leopard print cherries on my head: The major problem being that these cherries are about the same size as my little pinhead… In all honesty, this piece is beautiful, but is it really wearable? Perhaps when the next royal wedding comes along, I will reach for the old cherry headband…

The Crop Top

Prada, Spring 2012
Proenza Schouler, Spring 2012

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE these looks. But it is one of those trends that the average woman is simply not pulling off. Imagining myself bearing the belly during daytime hours is laughable, not to mention during nighttime hours after I’ve consumed what’s left of the Easter candy on the East coast.

Hot Pants

Jason Wu, Spring 2012
Dolce and Gabbana, Spring 2012

Another trend sweeping the Spring 2012 runways, yet again, were hot pants. All I have to say is, see my laughable comment above… Hot pants are an editorial dream, but wearing them out on the streets is a serious fashion risk. What trends do you love to admire, but can only dream of pulling off?

I Really Do Believe In Pink…

Skirt: thrifted, Sweater: Moschino (mens), Shoes: Steve Madden, Sunglasses: Ralph Lauren, Giraffe Necklace: J.Crew

Details - Ring: Alexander McQueen, Watch: Michael Kors, Bracelets: Vintage, J.Crew

Can you tell I’m obsessed with my Alexander McQueen ring? I got this amazing piece for Christmas, and I wore it so often that the manfriend asked if I was ever going to take it off… so I did, for like a day. I mean, can you blame me?

The Blazer’s Out Of The Bag

Dress: H&M (old), Studded belt: F21, White Blazer: UO, Boots: BB Dakota, Eyeglasses: Tiffany & Co., Watch: Michael Kors, Jewelry: Ettika, Fossil, and unknown

Attempting to keep my skirt from flying up. That would not be a sight passersby want to see.

I am proud to say the white blazer has made it from the shopping bag to my body, AND, thus far, I have managed to keep it clean. I like the studded belt with this because it is unexpected, and it toughens up such a feminine, floral dress. When I am tired or have a busy week I tend to reach for easy, breezy dresses and pair them with comfortable flats or booties. This makes for a chic daytime look without lots of fuss. Hope you are also having a fuss-free fashion week!

Fancy Pants

Pants: H&M, Sweater: Isaac Mizrahi for Target (old), Loafers: Steve Madden, Watch: Michael Kors, Cocktail ring: Bobbles and Lace

I was home for Easter this weekend, and we snapped a few shots on the pool patio outside my house. These flowers were beautiful, but matched my hot pink pants a liiiiittle too closely. Anyway, I thought I had a fun, clean look going on here, but the pictures revealed a wrinkly hot (pink) mess. Oh well… Hope you had a great weekend!

1 Piece, 6 Ways: White Blazer

I recently purchased a white blazer, but  I have yet to remove it from the bag. The reasons for this are three-fold: A. I don’t want it to get dirty. B. I don’t want to look like a waiter. C. I don’t want it to get dirty. (Ok, two fold. But a dirty white blazer has lost all its integrity, my friends.)

To overcome reason number two, I have spent many grueling hours on polyvore.com styling a white blazer in fun ways that I can wear it without looking like I should be serving everyone around me mini hors d’oeuvres on a silver platter. Here are the different outfits I came up with:

Now that I have some styling ideas, I just need to get over my fear of dirtying my white blazer… Which look do you like best? Tell me in the comments, and have a great weekend!!

Laid-Back

Jeans: Lucky Brand, Tank: F21, Crop sweater: Bobbles and Lace boutique, Lace booties: Steve Madden, Shades: RayBan

I am on my way to class, wearing comfortable and casual pieces. I particularly love these boyfriend jeans – they are so soft and slouchy, without being ill-fitting. What style/brand are your go-to comfy jeans?

Hello Boys…

Welcome to my closet. 🙂

A couple months ago, I entered a contest to win free shoes for a year from Steve Madden, and I won! (It’s no lottery, but hey I’m certainly not complaining!) These floral platforms are the first pair I chose – aren’t they adorable? I love how they are reminiscent of the Miu Miu Mary Janes from a few years ago.

What fabulous shoes would you pick from Steve Madden? Leave me your ideas in the comments!
