I put together a little round-up of some of my looks from 2012. I want to give a special thank you to all who so kindly photographed me throughout the year – Elizabeth Chabot, Genevieve Aniello, Lydia Hudgens, and the Manfriend. I am very excited about the new year 2013, but first a look back…
Happy New Year, everybody! See ya in ’13.
Wearing – Sweater: Alloy, Blouse: H&M (love this one), Leggings: INC, Vest: L.L. Bean (old, similar), Booties: Steve Madden c/o (similar)
Earrings: boutique, Rings: Gorjana and Alexander McQueen, Bracelets: Off-Fifth (old), Watch: Michael Kors
This puffer has been in my closet since HS, but until recently it has been gathering dust toward the back. I was inspired by a few bloggers and street-style shots featuring puffer vests (like here and here), so I put this look together for the weekend. What do you think? Is the puffer the new chic topper for the weekend?

Santa was very good to me this year. Remember my Christmas wish-list post? Everything on my list was under the tree on Christmas day! I’m a very lucky lady… Here’s a peek at some of my goodies.
Lela Rose lace top, Calvin Klein coat, J. Crew trousers, Marc by Marc Jacobs blouse, Hartmann weekender bag, Banana Republic tweed blazer, and Maybelline mega plus mascara
I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing holiday! And what is the favorite gift you received? Share with me in the comments!

Fashionable friends, I wanted to share with you the basic formulas I implement when dressing for the holidays. Here are 4 outfits that I will be wearing this season:
1. Family Holiday Party: Black jeans + Fun blouse + Lace-up Booties + Simple gold jewelry
–Family parties usually involve lots of food, drinks, and catching-up so comfort
is essential. For this look, I chose James Jeans
black skinnies, a fun blouse from Modcloth
, on-trend Bakers lace-up booties, a KJL
black cocktail ring, and gold bangles.
2. Christmas Eve: LBD + Amazing coat + Festive heels
–Christmas Eve is typically spent having cocktails with family friends and/or going to church (er, maybe not in that order…) Since this is the only time during the entire year that I hit up church, I try my best to impress the big man upstairs. A no-fail LBD
, like this one from Karen Millen
, is the perfect thing. Add festive pumps (Charlotte Olympia), opaque tights, a metallic belt
, and drop earrings to finish the look. Top it off with a fancy coat (Dolce and Gabbana
), and you have a classic, chic look
3. Christmas Day: Leggings + Slouchy Sweater + Pashmina + Loafers
I’m not planning on leaving my couch on Christmas Day, but since there will probably be guests at my parent’s house I will
change out of my pajamas. An equally comfortable and infinitely chicer
option are these tweed Stella McCartney
leggings with a slouchy black sweater
. Add a printed scarf, like this Rag & Bone beauty, and studded loafers
to bring the look up a couple notches.
4. New Year’s Eve: Metallic-y Dress + Pumps + Unexpected Accessories
–I’m not really a sequin person, so this subtly metallic dress from AllSaints
is a perfect NYE option for me. It is feminine but structured, and is it obvious that I am completely in love with it
? Unexpected accessories like a leopard belt
and a cranberry clutch
keep the look youthful and cool. Add a little extra
shine with these gold pumps
, and you are ready to ring in the New Year in style.

As promised, here are the items on my Christmas list. I know, how boring am I? Mostly these are just practical things that I need… but hey, what do you expect from a poor recent-grad living in NYC? I need all the help I can get. It’s not glamorous, but I could use some shampoo, TP, and mascara too. I hope Santa reads fashion blogs…
If you’ve been expecting a gift guide from me, I apologize, but here’s my beef with the gift guide:
A. My family, Manfriend, and friends read my blog… (I think). If I tell you all my most brilliant gift ideas, then the
surprise, er MAGIC of Christmas will be totally blown. I can’t be laying down hints!
B. Sadly, I don’t know your friends and family. So who am I to suggest what these strangers might like? What tickles one Mom’s fancy may not tickle another’s.
C. Don’t you hate when you are reading a gift guide, and you are actually struck with inspiration… Then, oh wait, just saw the price tag. Never in my mother’s/father’s/brother’s/boyfriend’s/bestie’s/pet’s wildest dreams are they getting that *insert amazingly perfect but over-budget gift here* from me. Maybe if I win the lottery… (Yes, I’m looking at you Gwyneth).
D. Don’t you hate when you are reading a gift guide, and it suggests a cheese platter with elephants on it for your Manfriend… Who are these men that actually seek out a platter when they want a simple snack? I’d be interested to meet such a fellow… Now, cheese sans a platter is a great gift. Who doesn’t love cheese?
So here is my guide to gift-giving this holiday season… Make yourself a budget and try your very best to stick to it. Don’t settle – if you can’t find the perfect thing before the holiday then write them an IOU until you can. Don’t stress – seriously, it is supposed to be fun. And, when in doubt, give cheese 🙂
P.S. I don’t mind sharing what I want under my tree for Christmas, so stay tuned for a Hillary’s Holiday Wish-List.
Have a great weekend!

There are a couple of things going on here. First, my hair is darker. Second, I’m killing it in this dress/jeans/sneakers combo… wouldn’t you agree?
This weekend I attended back-to-back holiday parties, so the girls and I went shopping for cocktail dresses. It just so happens that I found mine at a pop-up shop in Union Square. Had to make sure it fit before purchasing, so… No shame. Thank god for friends who
insist upon are willing to snap a pic at a time like this. I bought the dress, paired it with a vintage belt, sheer tights, and ankle booties… Left the jeans and sneakers at home. 🙂
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
